Strategy & advisory calls
Your books answer questions. Advisory is where you ask them, with someone who has run businesses for 25 years sitting across the table.
Clean books tell you what happened. The harder question is what to do next, and most owners work that question alone. Advisory calls give you a thinking partner who has read your numbers and has also sat where you sit: making payroll, pricing a menu, deciding whether the slow season is a blip or a warning.
The conversation starts with your goals. Once you're clear about what you want the business to do, the books become a compass: is this quarter moving you toward it? From there the calls go where you need them: pricing, hiring timing, whether a product line earns its keep, how to think about a lease.
Dave brings both the short-term and long-term view, and he's adaptable about how he communicates. Some owners want a devil's advocate. Some want encouragement and a checklist. Everybody needs to hear different things at different times, and he's good at the soft touches.
For decisions that need a CPA or an attorney, he'll say so and gladly work with yours. Advisory complements them; nothing here replaces tax or legal advice.
Advisory fits when
- A big decision is coming: hire, lease, expand, raise prices
- You want a sounding board who understands your numbers
- The business runs you, and you want it the other way around
- You're profitable but not sure the business is going where you want
What advisory includes
- Scheduled calls, at whatever rhythm fits: monthly or quarterly
- Your numbers reviewed before every call, so time gets spent on decisions
- Goal setting, and reporting that tracks progress against it
- A 25-year owner's read on pricing, hiring, and timing
- Plain answers, including the uncomfortable ones
- Coordination with your CPA when a question crosses into tax
Questions about strategy & advisory calls
What do owners use advisory calls for?
Real decisions: whether to hire, when to raise prices, whether a location or product line earns its keep, how to prepare cash for a slow season. The agenda is yours; Dave brings the numbers and the experience.
How often do advisory calls happen?
As often as helps. Some clients do a monthly working session; most find a quarterly rhythm right. It flexes with what the business is going through.
Is advisory included with monthly bookkeeping?
Every monthly client gets their questions answered and their reports explained; that's baseline. Standing strategy sessions are scoped as their own piece so the time gets protected instead of squeezed in.
